Tuesday Iftars with the Homeless

Assalamu alaikum everyone!

With Ramadan in full swing, I’m sure we all have our schedules packed with Iftars, events, and gatherings. What I’m asking is you take one day out of your week during Ramadan to have Iftar WITH the homeless.

What do I mean by ‘with’? Alhamdulillah, our community has taken a number of opportunities to provide meals for the homeless, but rarely do we take the time to sit down, have a meal, and just kick back with them.

My goal is to be able to fund Iftars that any of us would want to have: not sandwiches, but the good stuff, like baked chicken, biryani, burgers, etc. I want to be able to share the joys we have during Ramadan with those that don’t regularly experience such joys.

The first time we did this, we were able to feed 30+ people food from Shamshiry (a fantastic Persian restaurant) for around $220. As you’d imagine, feeding people well costs a pretty penny.

If you’d like to donate to covering food costs, you can send funds to me over PayPal (zhasan@gwmail.gwu.edu) or on Venmo (@Zahin). If you’d like to sponsor an entire Iftar, feel free to message me!

I look forward to seeing you all there 🙂
